Ovarian cancer causes more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system.In 2019 alone....
About 22,530 women will receive a new diagnosis of ovarian cancer.
About 13,980 women will die from ovarian cancer.
Symptoms of Ovarain Cancer are so vague that only 20% of women are diagnosed before the cancer has metastasized into other parts of the body. This fundraiser will help go to research to find ways to help with early detection.
The Deary Family Story:
As many of you know, Shawns mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in May 2018. I in August of 2018, Carol went in for major surgery to debulk the cancer, start chemo and get on the road to remission, what we didn’t know was how far the cancer has spread. The cancer had spread to many different parts of her stomach and other organs, and that the surgery would not be able to be completed. Carol endured many types of chemotherapy and other treatments to keep the the cancer at bay, and keep her comfortable, all doing so with a smile on her face.
In August 2019 Carol passed away surrounded by her family at home.
Carols diagonosis was a shock to the family. She did not feel sick for a long time, nor did she show symptoms. This is the horrible problem with Ovarain cancer, it is hard to detect and is typically in later stages when symptoms are shown.
So on September 25thth, CrossFit Aspinock will be holding our 2nd Annual "Wod for Carol" fundraiser to raise money to donate to the Dana Faber research fund for early detection of Ovarian Cancer and for the wonderful care and support they provide to their patients and families at the worst times.
We will have a WOD to sign up for, raffles, contests, and more! Follow the link below to get signed up for the WOD! This will be a 15 minute Workout and will be scalable for all abilities levels! You don't have to participate in the work out if you do not want to! The link also has a space for donations if you can't make the 25th!
