Each of the dynamic learning sessions will be offered twice during this half-day conference. Breakout sessions offered are:

What Does The Bible Say About Domestic Violence?

Explore what the Bible says about Domestic Violence. If you’ve skimmed or read through the Bible you have most likely encountered many stories of anger, violence, and war. The Bible is often used to keep victims silent about their experiences of domestic violence, to urge them to stay with an abusive partner, and even to justify abuse. This workshop will explore reconciling the God of the Bible with our experiences of domestic abuse.

The Impacts of Domestic Violence on Children

What are some of the short- and long-term impacts of domestic violence when it is experienced as a child/adolescent? It will provide some support that the community can engage in to assist a young person who has experienced domestic violence.

What Do You Know About Domestic Violence?

Discussion surrounding the characteristics of unhealthy and healthy relationships, signs of an abuser, and resources available to survivors of domestic violence and their family members.

Intersection Between Human Trafficking & Domestic Violence

Human Trafficking is a 150 billion dollar per year business directly enslaving over 40 million people worldwide according to the International Labor Organization. In this session, we will learn the definitions, understand the forms, explore the intersections, and examine the cross indicators, behaviors, and signs of human trafficking and domestic violence.

Safety Planning on College Campuses

Interpersonal violence can occur in any setting, including on college campuses. What can colleges do to reduce domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking? What resources are available to students and employees who experience these crimes and what are the options for reporting these crimes? This presentation will cover these topics as well as factors that should be considered when engaging in safety planning on college campuses.

A.C.E’s and Handle with Care

This engaging session will discuss adverse childhood experiences most commonly referred to as A.C.E's, the impact of these experiences on the brain including short and long-term effects, and dive into what can be done to reduce the long-term impacts of those traumas. We will also give an overview of our school-based handle with care program and how we support youth in our schools who may have been the victim of A.C.E's/trauma.

Sexual Violence in Intimate Partner Relationships

Domestic violence and sexual abuse are often closely related. Statistics show that 45% of women who are physically abused by a partner are also likely to be a victim of sexual violence in the relationship. This presentation will focus on highlighting the unspoken prevalence and make participants and the community aware of the resources that are available.

How to Use an Infant Mental Health Approach to Change the Trajectory of the Impact of Child Trauma

The science of early adversity and child trauma tells us that it can have a life-changing impact on their development. By understanding and utilizing an infant mental health approach with all children, we can change their developmental trajectory and help address trauma's negative impact on their lives.
