Tired of dragging those pots inside every time there’s a freeze heading your way.
Then it’s time for you to be introduced to the North American “PawPaw” (Asimina Tribola) this variety can be included in your landscape and be just for you. In many tropical countries Papaya (Carica papaya) is also called a “PawPaw”. This causes a lot of confusion, and they are not the same and “Will NOT” be a part of this Tasting.
Pawpaws are a temperate tree that can be grown in USDA zones 5-10. Of course, this is not set in stone, however outside of these zones growing becomes experimental.
Native North American plant, very little pests, hardy to well below zero (F),
Depending on the cultivar-Fruits August thru October in Texas.
You hear a lot of hype around the taste and Tropical flavors of a PawPaw being somewhat like a banana/mango/berry mix with the texture of an Avocado. However, flavors greatly vary depending on the cultivar.
