Anton Waldmann knew Memorial Day as “Decoration Day.” Following its official designation in 1868, the last weekend in May was traditionally spent visiting cemeteries, attending ceremonies and otherwise honoring those who fought in America’s bloodiest conflict, our Civil War—which still exceeds all of our casualties in World War I and World War II combined. In remembrance of these veterans, and in gratitude to all men and women in all branches of service who continue to defend, protect and preserve our freedoms, Waldmann will present "Letters Home: A Decoration Day Celebration" on Saturday, May 23 from 2-3:30pm. This outdoor concert and performance will feature music by Century Brass accompanying the 5th Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Civil War reenactors as they read from letters written by and to soldiers of the Civil War. The event is free and families are encouraged. Members of the 5th Minnesota reenactors will also be encamped in the grass next to our biergarten throughout the day demonstrating camp life and answering questions. Come early to save your seat! Subject to cancellation in the event of rain.
