You are cordially invited... to the 28th Annual Dinner of the Baird Creek Preservation Foundation. Join us as Charlie Frisk discusses the history and development of Green Bay’s Baird Creek Valley, a sneak peek of his article in the winter/spring 2025 magazine edition of Voyageur: Northeast Wisconsin’s Historical Review.
Charlie Frisk has been preparing to present the history of the Baird Creek Watershed and the Baird Creek Preservation Foundation for the past three decades. Charlie was one of the original group of concerned citizens who rallied to save the Baird Creek Heights area from development, an achievement that ultimately led to the formation of the BCPF. Many people in Green Bay doubted that this small group of environmentalists could stop the Baird Creek Heights Development. The inspiring story of how they succeeded in the face of that doubt is one that should not be lost from the public memory. Margaret Meade would surely agree! Charlie, a bit of a history buff, has researched the history of the valley back to when the Green Bay lobe of the Wisconsin Glacier receded from the Baird Creek area over 10,000 years ago, allowing Native Americans to move into the area. Through his experiences with the BCPF, Charlie has met and interviewed some of the people who grew up on farms in the Baird Creek valley. They provide an interesting personal history of the area before it became the Baird Creek Greenway. Charlie is the current president of the BCPF and intends to keep working the rest of his time on earth to make the Greenway one of the finest urban wild parks in the country.
