27th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza National Group Competition

The 27th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza is a weeklong mariachi music festival that serves host to the largest and longest-running mariachi group competitions in the world. Widely considered as the toughest national mariachi competition to take place anywhere these competitions are often referred to as the Super Bowl of Mariachi Music where the best mariachi groups in the nation go head-to-head for a chance to open for the world-renowned Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán in concert. 

Emotions run high as mariachi groups put their all into their performances onstage for prizes that include performances traveling opportunities and grants. This is the only NATIONAL MARIACHI GROUP COMPETITION in the world where groups compete in one of three categories: Middle School High School or College/University levels. It’s the largest gathering of the most talented young mariachi artists in the nation. Artists are dressed in traditional mariachi trajes and perform at the top of their game as a result of countless hours of practice planning and preparation. 

First second and third place winners are selected by members of Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán during the competitions held at the Lila Cockrell Theatre on Friday December 3rd and at the National High School Group Finals on Saturday December 4th.

Wristbands are required to attend this unique family-oriented cultural event held as part of the 27th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza. Wristbands may be purchased ore-sale online until November 27 for $20 on mariachimusic.com or at the door on the day of competition for $25. Each wristband includes entrance into the National Group Competition on December 3rd and the National Vocal Competition and High School Group Finals on December 4th.
