27th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza Concert

Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán returns to San Antonio to celebrate the 27th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza on Saturday December 4 at the Lila Cockrell Theatre(200 E. Market) at 7:30 p.m. 

Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán is considered the best mariachi in the world (el mejor mariachi del mundo). Founded in 1897 in the southern Jalisco village of Tecalitlán the group celebrates 124 years and six generations as the most influential mariachi in history. Its current generation represents the state of the art in mariachi music with world-class vocalists and instrumentalists flawless ensemble work impeccable taste in arrangements and repertoire and spellbinding showmanship. 

The Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán concert culminates the weeklong Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza now in its 27th year as the largest longest running and most celebrated mariachi music festival in the world. The event serves host to the most competitive National Mariachi Group and Vocal competitions in the country. Opening for Mariachi Vargas are winners of these competitions and surprise celebrity guest appearances. 

The Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza is the largest gathering of mariachi musicians and vocalists in the world. More than 1000 mariachi artists convene in San Antonio to celebrate the music and traditions that help shape the culture of the Alamo City.
