The Federal Emergency Management Agency Region VI and the Texas Water Development Board will be holding a 4-day floodplain management course from June 20-23, 2022 in Harlingen, TX.

Course Description:

This course provides an opportunity for local officials responsible for administering their floodplain regulations to review rules and regulations that apply to the daily management of the floodplains in their communities. The course will focus on the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and concepts of floodplain management, maps and studies, ordinance administration, and the relationship between floodplain management and insurance.

Course Goal:

This course will describe important aspects of basic floodplain management practices. Additionally, this course includes an overview of the NFIP, outreach and risk communication techniques, utilization of Flood Insurance Studies and maps to determine the flood hazard risk at given sites, and NFIP minimum floodplain requirements.

This class will be offered free of charge, but participants are responsible for their own meals.

Certified Floodplain Manager Exam:

The Texas Floodplain Management Association will be offering the Certified Floodplain Manager Exam on Friday, June 24th. **Signing up for the Eventbrite event does not guarantee you will be taking the exam. Please read the following instructions carefully in order to register for the exam. ** Please contact TFMA at (512) 260-1366, if you have any questions.

In order to take the CFM Exam, the following must be accomplished before June 10, 2022.

  1. Applicant must be a member of TFMA
  2. Applicant must submit the 9-page CFM Exam application either via email or regular mail. Applications can be emailed to [email protected].
  3. Applicant must pay the application fee. The link for the application and the fee is https://www.tfma.org/page/Renewal.
