Join us and other local charities and non-profits for an opportunity to connect, network, and hear from keynote speakers on topics relevant to the charitable and non-profit sector. This event is free to attend, but registration is required. This year’s keynote speakers are:
- Rev. John Pellowe, Canadian Centre for Christian Charities: Moving from board meetings to board governance. Too often, board meeting time is spent receiving reports and approving management's requests, with little or no time left for the board's most important responsibility: to govern. When boards fulfill their governance responsibilities, their meetings will be engaging, meaningful, and a major support to mission fulfillment.
- Ellen Graf-Martin, Graf-Martin Communications: As we look toward 2027, the communication, donor, and cultural landscapes are shifting radically. How can you keep up? How can you ensure your charity or non-profit stands out in an era of AI sameness, global instability, and rapid change? Ellen will unpack 5 critical trends every non-profit and charity leader needs to understand for their organization to survive and thrive.
- Curtis Braun, Loewen Kruse CPA: Curtis will provide a high-level overview of key compliance matters that charities and non-profits should have on their radar. The session moves across a range of obligations that touch the sector, from receipting and business activities to fundraising and spending requirements. The aim is to help organizations recognize where their compliance risks may sit and identify which areas warrant a closer look.
- Brayden Volkenant & Rhys Volkenant, Volkenant Law Group: Brayden and Rhys will discuss common legal considerations and issues when charities and non-profits want to work together or combine operations including charity compliance, corporate, and employment issues. Charities often want to work together or combine operations with another organization for reasons of efficiency and a shared goal or purpose. Working together can range from informal collaboration and support to a more formal asset transfer, amalgamation or change of control. This session will outline practical and proactive steps to consider taking when opportunities arise to collaborate or to combine operations with another organization.
Please note the time change! Doors open at 8:00am, and the seminar will begin at 8:30am. The seminar will run until 12:30pm, allowing more time for networking, two special keynote speakers, and a Q & A session. All the speakers will be staying after the formal programming ends to allow for networking and questions.
