25th Annual Blues & Sweet Potato Pie Festival: A Juneteenth Celebration

Celebrate "25 Years of Cultural Legacy" at the Annual Juneteenth Festival POMPANO BEACH, FL

— The Friends of the Northwest Branch Library are proud to announce the 25th Annual "Blues & Sweet Potato Pie Festival: A Juneteenth Celebration." This year’s landmark event is centered around a powerful theme: "25 Years of Cultural Legacy: Rooted in Resilience, Rising in Joy."

On Saturday, June 13, 2026, the community will gather to honor the history of freedom and the enduring spirit of the neighborhood. For a quarter of a century, this festival has served as a cornerstone for literacy and connection, bringing together over 500 attendees to reflect on the significance of June 19, 1865—the day the news of emancipation finally reached the last enslaved people in Texas.

Event Highlights Include:

 The Soundtrack of Heritage: Live old-time blues music and performances by local bands.

 Dynamic Artistry: Special showcases from local dance groups.

 Voices of the Community: Motivational speakers and local performers sharing stories of resilience.

 Family & Education: Interactive attractions that make history accessible for all ages.

 "Annual Sweet Potato Pie Bake-Off": Bring your best recipe and wow the judges.

There will be historic fun with Rhonda B. Walker’s Old Fashioned Games: hoola hoop contest, tug-of-war, watermelon eating contest, sack races, foot races, and more, to honor the memory of Rhonda B. Walker, founder of the Blues and Sweet Potato Pie Festival in 1999 and Northwest Branch Library “Manager of Excellence” for many years.

As a 501c3 not-for-profit organization, the Friends of the Northwest Branch Library rely on the collaborative efforts of volunteers and local partners. All sponsorships directly fund the performers, equipment, and supplies necessary to keep this cultural legacy thriving.
