“THE BRITISH ARE COMING!! THE BRITISH ARE COMING!!
THE BRITISH ARE COMING!!!”
Two lanterns have been hung in the Old North Church steeple in Boston signaling the need to rouse the countryside around Charlestown because British troops were arriving by sea enroute to Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts.
“LISTEN, my children, and you shall hear Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere, On the eighteenth of April, in Seventy-five;…” (Longfellow, 1860) BUT it was not just Paul Revere who rode… there were also others including William Dawes, Samuel Prescott, Israel Bissell, Sybil Ludington, and Wentworth Cheswell
(Cheswill). WHAT?! WHO are these folks?!
Join us for a short program commemorating the 250th Anniversary of “The Shot Heard ‘Round The World – The Battles of Lexington and Concord” in order to find out about them and so much more! This program will include a color guard, people in period garb and firing of volleys!
If you cannot make it to the actual commemoration in Massachusetts, join our group of historians, members of the SAR, DAR, and the American Legion, reenactors, and any
other degenerates we can dig up for an event at the
Lincoln County Court House, 120 Justice Drive, Lincolnton, North Carolina on Saturday, 19 April 2025 at 10 AM.
Bring a lawn chair!!
