2027 Mission Investing Institute
About this Event
-
The 2027 Mission Investing Institute will take place May 11-13, 2027, in Denver, Colorado. As Mission Investors Exchange’s (MIE) signature introductory learning program, our Institute is designed to help philanthropy professionals start or strengthen their impact investing practice.
This year’s Institute features an optional Impact in Action site visit on May 11, 2027, with required programming starting on May 12 at the History Colorado Center. A virtual orientation and office hours will be offered before the in-person program. Institute sessions will cover best practices for foundations and other mission-driven asset owners to develop the strategy and capacity for an effective impact investing program. Expect a dynamic learning environment with opportunities to workshop organizational solutions, apply actionable insights, and build connections with fellow practitioners.
Industry experts will lead the Institute’s curriculum, offering practical tools that can be applied across various stages of impact investing. Participants will leave with concrete examples and next steps for scaling their impact investing programs.
Learning objectives include:
- Defining impact investing and other key terms
- Understanding investment approaches
- Designing and implementing a portfolio
- Sourcing and underwriting investments
- Monitoring financial performance
- Measuring social impact
Eligibility
The Institute is designed primarily for professionals from MIE member and non-member foundations as well as other mission-driven asset owners. The curriculum will be most relevant for those with less than five years of impact investing experience or those who are seeking strategies and frameworks to deepen their expertise and advance their work. Foundation leaders including CEOs/Presidents, board and investment committee members, as well as finance, investment, and program staff, are encouraged to attend. If an organization registers more than two participants, we prefer that at least one participant is a board or investment committee member.
Foundations and mission-driven asset owners will be prioritized for Institute registration. A limited number of seats may be made available for MIE affiliate members, local community nonprofits, and industry partners—if you fall within those categories and are interested in attending, please contact Mark Bernstiel at [email protected].
