Join Us for the 2027 KY INBRE Biological Microscopy & Image Analysis Workshop!
NOTE: You are applying as a part of a competitive application process. Submitting a completed application does not automatically ensure that you are accepted for the Workshop, but you MUST submit a complete application to be considered.
The KY INBRE Biological Microscopy & Image Analysis Workshop is a 3-day workshop to discuss the principles and applications of electron and light sheet microscopy for biological samples with hands on experience. We will cover an introduction to Electron Microscopy, Sample Preparation, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Light Sheet Microscopy, image analysis techniques (data preparation, segmentation & reconstruction), and applications for AI.
Location: University of Louisville
Maximum number of Participants: 12 (Lunch will be provided each day)
Application Criteria:
- Applicants that wish to participate must apply by June 18, 2027. Accepted applicants will be notified of acceptance by July 2, 2027.
- Applicants must be a student, research staff or faculty in a Kentucky institution of higher learning.
- Applicants must be over the age of 18.
- Applications entered with the use of artificial intelligence will be rejected.
- Applicants must be able to provide their own transportation and lodging. Parking fees will not be reimbursed by the workshop. Visitor Campus Parking Information (Credit Card Only): Floyd Street Parking Garage (use the guest entrance on the North side of the garage; parking map)
- Applicants must be able to bring a laptop with a keyboard and mouse (no tablets or desktops) and install a specified list of software prior to the workshop. The list of software to be installed will be made available upon acceptance into the workshop.
Program:
- Day 1 – Intro to EM, Software Setup, SEM Training: Shumaker Research Building (Jasmin Beharic, David Alston)
- Day 2 – TEM, Confocal & Light Sheet Microscopy - Medical & Dental Research Building (Julia Aebersold)
- Day 3 – Image Analysis: Medical & Dental Research Building (David Alston)
