Black Mountain Recreation & Parks (BMRP) is excited to partner with the Black Mountain Greenways & Trails Committee to present the 4th Annual Valentine Greenway Challenge on Saturday, February 7, 2026! This year's race will have a goal of raising $50,000 to go towards replacing the greenway bridge along the Oaks Trail at Veterans Park that was swept away by Tropical Storm Helene.
The 2026 Valentine Greenway Challenge will consist of a 5K and a kids fun on a newly-designed course, beginning near the picnic pavilion at Lake Tomahawk. Per tradition, runners are encouraged to dress up in their funkiest outfit for a chance to win one of several spirit awards. This year's spirit awards will consist of gift cards to local businesses along with other parks & rec swag.
Prizes will also be awarded to the overall winners and the 1st place finishers in each age category. Overall awards will be as follows:
1st place Male & Female: $150 to Mountain Running Company
2nd place Male & Female: $100 to Mountain Running Company
3rd place Male & Female: $50 to Mountain Running Company
All sponsorships and 50% of registration fees will be donated back to the Black Mountain Greenways & Trails Committee to help fund the replace of the Oaks Trail greenway bridge.
