About this Event

The Southeastern Michigan Perinatal Quality Improvement Coalition (SEMPQIC) is excited to host the upcoming Black Maternal Health Equity Summit on Thursday, September 24th, 2026, at Marygrove Conservancy - Madame Cadillac Building - located at 8425 W McNichols Rd, Detroit, MI 48221. Doors will open at 8:00 AM.
The summit officially begins at 9:00 AM and concludes at 5:00 PM.

This year’s theme, “Beyond Survival: Where Mental Health Meets Maternal Equity" will bring together healthcare professionals, industry experts, and community leaders to discuss mental health challenges within the industry and community. Attendees can look forward to a day filled with inspiring guest speakers, a variety of vendors, and a dynamic program hosted by Emmy Award-winning journalist Paula Tutman.

By the end of the Summit, attendees will be able to:

-Describe how perinatal mental health disparities are impacted by root causes.

-Identify strategies to improve their personal mental health as providers.

-Identify community resources that support individual and community mental health.

-Increase awareness of the signs of perinatal mental health challenges.
Together, we will reconnect with the values, practices, and community-driven solutions that have empowered Black families for generations.

Presenters will define the related health issues, discuss key treatment options, the importance of understanding what's available and referral options. Family members will have the opportunity to pose questions and discussions to help improve the delivery of services.
