Anodiphony: Voltage into Color and Sound is an interdisciplinary project by PASS artists Sestra Kuya: Si Golraine, in collaboration with sound artist Gerry Gonzales. The project centers on a system Golraine and Gonzales have developed that translates raw electrical voltage into simultaneous fields of color and sound. The work focuses on building a durational live performance in which a single electrical signal generates both visual and sonic output, unfolding as a continuous system in real time. Conceptually, this work continues Golraine’s exploration of electricity as both a physical force and a perceptual field. By using a single electrical signal to generate both sound and color, Sestra Kuya creates a unified system where energy can be experienced across different senses at once.

When: December 12, 2026 | 2:00 PM Performance (1:00 PM Pre-Performance Reception) - 3:00 PM
Where: Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art, Building G, Gallery 1 (View Site Map and Directions)
Admission:
General Admission: $10.00
Student/Senior: $8.00
Snug Harbor Member: $8.00

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
SI GOLRAINE is a Ukrainian multidisciplinary artist based in New York City whose work spans performance, painting, sound, and sculpture through the medium of electricity. She is the co-founder of Sestra Kuya, a collaborative project with musician and sound artist Gerry Gonzales. Together, they develop original instruments and performance systems that use a single fluctuating electrical signal to generate both structural color on titanium and sound in real time. Developed in 2025, their custom process applies raw electrical voltage through a brush to titanium, where it produces shifting structural color while the same electrical current is simultaneously routed into modular synthesis. The result is a live performance in which painting and sound emerge from the same electrical event, collapsing image, instrument, and gesture into a single act.
Golraine's background includes eleven years of classical training in piano, voice, and music theory, studies in theater and scenic design, and private apprenticeships in painting and restoration. Gonzales brings more than twenty years of experience in audio engineering, music production, DJing, and modular synthesis. Together, Sestra Kuya draws on these complementary practices to investigate electricity as a performative medium and to create immersive works that explore the relationship between sound, image, perception, and presence.
Golraine's work has been presented at the Alice Austen House Museum, Gloria's Project Space, Governors Island with the Climate Imaginarium, and experimental music venues throughout New York. She is the recipient of the 2025 Creative Climate Award First Prize and the 2024 DCLA Premier Grant through Staten Island Arts.

ABOUT PASS (PERFORMING ARTS SALON SATURDAYS)
PASS is a residency program focused on the creation and development of original works in dance, music, theater, and multi-disciplinary performance. Artists live and work in one of our historic cottages, with access to rehearsal space to develop their ideas and take creative risks. At the end of each residency, artists share their work in a public work-in-progress performance across the campus. PASS provides space, time, financial, and curatorial support to incubate artists in the development of their work. Founded by Gabri Christa in 2015 and directed by Melissa West since 2017, PASS is a unique, sought-after opportunity for performing artists living, creating, and presenting new work in New York City. Snug Harbor is proud of its role as an arts incubator and cultural anchor for Staten Island.
PASS: Performing Arts Salon Saturdays residency program is made possible through generous lead support from the Howard Gilman Foundation, with additional support from the New York State Council on the Arts, with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature, and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council. Snug Harbor is a proud partner with the CUNY Dance Initiative.
