By the end of this symposium, participants will be able to:

1. Describe advances in translational research and contemporary management of acute spinal cord injury.
2. Outline techniques for evaluating autoregulation and testing the function of invasive intracranial monitors through bedside maneuvers to gain deeper insight into a specific patient’s physiology after injury, enabling the team to optimize therapy for that individual patient’s unique physiologic profile
3. Analyze and synthesize current evidence related to traumatic brain injury (TBI) and spinal cord injury (SCI), including rapid alerting systems for SCI, surgical interventions, intraspinal pressure monitoring, pain management, and prognostic tools.
4. Evaluate the role of advanced technologies such as transcranial magnetic stimulation, neuromodulation, brain-computer interfaces, and paired associative stimulation in guiding prognosis and enhancing functional recovery in neurotrauma patients.
5. Incorporate patient-centered perspectives in holistic neurotrauma care by understanding survivor experiences.

Course Description:

This one-day symposium brings together leading experts in neurotrauma to deliver cutting-edge insights into the contemporary management of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and spinal cord injury (SCI). Designed for a multidisciplinary audience, the program integrates translational research, clinical innovation, and patient-centered care to optimize outcomes in acute neurotrauma. Participants will explore the latest evidence in rapid SCI alerting systems, surgical decompression, intraspinal pressure monitoring with lumbar drains, and autoregulation assessment using bedside maneuvers. Advanced neuroimaging, neuromodulation, transcranial magnetic stimulation, and brain-computer interfaces will be examined as tools for prognostication and functional recovery. Pharmacologic and rehabilitative strategies for neuropathic pain and secondary injury prevention will also be highlighted.

This symposium is designed for a multidisciplinary audience involved in the care of patients with traumatic brain injury and/or spinal cord injury, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, advanced practice providers, rehabilitation specialists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists, social workers, researchers, and other healthcare professionals.
