Joshua Reed was a young man who loved life and truly lived it to the fullest. He was a loyal friend and devoted to his family as a son, brother, nephew, and grandson. Joshua was always willing to help a stranger. He loved animals and was an avid dove, duck and deer hunter. He loved fishing, wakeboarding and waterskiing. Joshua loved beach trips, concerts, nights in Starkville and cheering on the MSU bulldogs. He was an avid golfer and won many tournaments with his dad at the Louisville Country Club.Joshua graduated from EMCC with a degree in electrical technology and worked for the Mississippi Forestry Commission. He then pursued a career as a lineman in which he demonstrated bravery and dedication. Joshua had a contagious smile and a spirit that made you drawn to him. Joshua served others, even in his death by being an organ donor. In this way, Joshua’s spirit lives on through the lives of 5 other people. How selfless he was, even in death. Through Joshua’s last week on earth, he built the Kingdom by spreading Joshua 1:9, and his life was a testament of faith and God’s goodness.
In such a terrible tragedy, it was certainly not how we intended or wanted, but it was God’s plan. What a gracious God we serve who gave us 24 precious years with such an incredible person. The Joshua Reed Memorial Golf Tournament is now established to honor and remember the life and legacy of Joshua. All proceeds from the tournament benefits the Joshua Reed Memorial Utility Line Worker Technology Scholarship. This creates opportunities for individuals to pursue careers in the field of lineman work. To learn more about this scholarship, please visit the East Mississippi Community College website.
