Honey Judge Training & Certification (Levels 1-3)

The American Honey Show Training Council will be holding the Introductory Honey Judge Training Class at the UF/IFAS 2025 Bee College in Gainesville, FL, on March 19th. For those individuals who have previously taken the Intro class, AND have completed all of the prerequisites to sit for a certification exam, the Level 2 or Level 3 certifciation exams will be offered on Friday, March 20th.

Honey Judging is a fascinating, detail-oriented pursuit. If you like to learn, if you like to teach, if you like to see the coolest stuff before anyone else does, honey judging might be right for you! Join us in Gainesville, FL, for this exciting event! This program is perfect for honey enthusiasts looking to enhance their knowledge and skills. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced beekeeper, our comprehensive program is appropriate for any level of beekeeping experience!

During this event, you'll learn about the science of honey judging, from the basics to advanced techniques. Our expert instructors will cover topics such as

  • food safety and hygiene,
  • proper harvesting, processing, and handling,
  • honey show logistics and administration, and
  • proper judging etiquette, ethics, and techniques.

The Introductory Training Class is the first step on the road to becoming an AHSTC Certified Honey Judge! The Intro Training Class (Level 1) is a day-long event. At the conclusion of the Level 1 class, participants will be a certified Honey Judge Candidate. There are a number of steps Honey Judge Candidates must complete before becoming eligible to sit for the (Level 2) Certified Honey Judge Exam. It takes most individuals 12-18 months to complete the requirements to sit for the (Level 2) Certified Honey Judge Exam. Honey Judge Candidates must complete all Level 2 program requirements prior to signing up for the Level 2 exam.

*PLEASE NOTE - The Honey Judge training and exams are a separate event from Bee College. If you want to attend Bee College as well, you will need to register for that event separately. The Level 1 Honey Judge Training class is a special seminar that will begin on March 19th. That is the Thursday, immediately BEFORE the start of Bee College. This Introductory Class is the first step on the road to becoming a Certified AHSTC Honey Judge!

The Level 2 & 3 exams will be held the following morning on Friday, March 20st. You must have previously completed the Level 1 class AND have completed all of the additional prerequisites for Level 2 and Level 3 before signing up for those tests. Levels 2 & 3 are the are actual Honey Judge and Senior Honey Judge certification tests.

Level 1 registration includes: the day-long Introductory Honey Judge Training workshop, course handouts, and workshop materials.

Level 2 registration includes: Honey Judge Certification test, Honey Judge's coat & hat, and a personalized diploma credentialing you as an AHSTC Certified Honey Judge!

Level 3 registration includes: Senior Honey Judge Certification test, Senior Honey Judge's pin, and a personalized diploma credentialing you as an AHSTC Certified Senior Honey Judge!

Attention! The cost of lunch is NOT included in the Level 1-3 registrations. Please be sure to register for lunch(s) at the Bee College registration site () for either or both days!
