2026 Galveston Texas ADCIRC Training
About this Event
The Texas ADCIRC After Dark sessions will be held in the evenings (6-8:30pm) during ICCE 2026 but are not affiliated with the conference itself. They will start Monday May 18 and run through Friday May 22. These informal sessions will be led by experienced ADCIRC developers and operators including Dr. Jason Fleming, the founder and lead organizer/instructor of the ADCIRC Boot Camp series since 2010.
Space is limited to 7 participants in this training venue.
We're looking forward to an exciting series of ADCIRC training sessions in the evenings during ICCE 2026!
Content
The ADCIRC After Dark sessions are normally held in the evenings during ADCIRC Week.
This year we have decided to try a new format with our succesful ADCIRC After Dark series by offering it as an evening session coincident with an existing coastal conference. This training event is sold as a package for $325 that includes access to all five evening sessions. Light dinner is included each evening.
Led by Dr. Jason Fleming of Seahorse Coastal Consulting, the content each day will consist of the following:
- Monday night: Introduction to ADCIRC
- Tuesday night: ADCIRC Live, a complete environment to help you run ADCIRC+SWAN on your own laptop
- Wednesday night: Troubleshooting numerical instability with ADCIRC+SWAN, which is a commonly encountered issue
- Thursday night: ADCIRC Cluster Deployment demonstrating how to install ADCIRC+SWAN on your department or business compute cluster
- Friday night: Visualization of ADCIRC+SWAN results using Paraview
Engaging Format
The presentation style will be a mix of lecture, demonstration, and interactive discussion. The instructors will also specify hands-on work for those trainees that bring a laptop with them.
Value
The evenings that a new ADCIRC analyst invests in this training could save weeks of project time spent in guesswork and trial-and-error. The After Dark sessions also provide value for more experienced users, because the discussion includes the underlying rationale behind various features, as well as highlighting time-saving tips and tricks that are not especially prominent in the documentation.
Some representative feedback from past attendees:
“I liked the format of the adcirc portion of going through each parameter. Thanks again, I think we all got a lot out of it.”
“I thought the Boot Camp was awesome. For researchers like me, it was extremely beneficial to get into the guts of the mechanisms behind the scenes of the fort files. … [the] format was engaging.”
The registration fee includes a light dinner as well.
Travel
We expect that our participants will be attending the coastal engineering conference nearby. The training site is within easy walking distance from the conference venue, and parking is also available.
