1:15pm - 2:15pm | The Socially Responsible Showpony
with Tas Al Ghul from Los Angeles, CA
Are you excited about developing a new act or producing a new show but not sure if you've covered all your bases? Have you gotten all of your choreography workshopped and your costume set but wondering what else you need to really polish things up and elevate your art? This new workshop offering from Tas Al-Ghul covers a crucial part of being a performance artist that is coming up more and more these days: how to make art that is fun and bold and creative without accidentally causing harm to fellow artists and audience members.
In this workshop, Tas will review high-level anti-oppression aspects to consider when developing an act or producing a show so that you can avoid causing harm (at worst) and that you can create art that is as diverse, equitable, accessible, and inclusive as possible (at best). Drawing upon their wide breadth of academic and professional experience spanning over two decades, Tas is excited to share this knowledge with you in a lecture and discussion style format that culminates in a Q&A portion where you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have around this topic!
2:30pm - 3:30pm | The Sustainable Tassel Twirl
with Ginger Snaps from Austin, TX
This workshop uses thoracic isolations to help students develop a sustainable tassel twirl that they can maintain for long periods of time without the hectic shoulder shaking! This technique will help you gain better control of your tassel twirl and make for a smoother and more even twirl regardless of chest size, topography, or tassel size. Students should bring pasties with tassels on them and be prepared to wear them for class!
Classes last for 60 minutes and are $20 per class (no processing fees with Zeffy). Refunds are available up to 7 days before the classes take place.
