The City of San Antonio’s official 2026 medal celebrates 30 years of public art in our city! Medals will be available to the public on Tuesday, April 7 from 5-7 p.m., while supplies last, at Calder Allery behind Culture Commons Gallery. One medal per person. You may also donate to the arts to have a medal mailed to you within the U.S.: https://www.sa.gov/Directory/Departments/Arts/About/DonateAbout the Medal:
The year 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of San Antonio’s Public Art Ordinance. Over the past three decades, public art has shaped the cultural and physical landscape of the city through murals, sculptures, installations, and projects across neighborhoods.
Tribute to Freedom by George Schroeder is in District 4 at Lackland Corridor Park and honors all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Open Hand, Open Mind, Open Heart by Douglas Kornfield is at Pittman Sullivan Park in District 2 and features an open hand symbolizing non-violence and connecting visitors to the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Najo Jām (Our Home) by San Antonio artists Carlos Cortés and Doroteo Garza is at Comanche Lookout Park in District 10 and honors indigenous heritage and Native American traditions.
