Key updates and priorities from the Office of the Assessor-Recorder, as well as how assessed value is set under Prop 13, what changed under Prop 19 (intergenerational transfers and base value transfers), and how/when to file an assessment appeal.

Estate Planning 101
Kendra Bowen, Housing & Economic Rights Advocates (HERA)

Why estate planning matters at every stage of life; core elements of a plan (living trust, will, advanced health care directive, power of attorney); and how to access affordable estate planning services. Whether you own a home or not, this presentation is for you.


Fireside Chat - Financial Empowerment for Women Heads of Households & Homeowners

Assessor-Recorder Joaquín Torres, Treasurer-Tax Collector Jose Cisneros, and Commission on Status on Women President Diane Jones Lowrey

To educate women homeowners, heads of households, and aspiring homeowners about available City resources, property tax savings, estate planning, financial empowerment, and wealth-building strategies while addressing barriers disproportionately experienced by low-income Black and Brown communities.



What to Expect

Expert presentations on property tax basics (including assessment appeals and Prop 19), estate planning, and homeowners insurance.

1-on-1 consultations with Assessor-Recorder staff and budgeting counselors (limited slots; on-site sign-ups starting at 10:00 AM).

Community Resource Fair with local and State departments as well non-profit partners offering programs spanning housing, financial planning, health/safety, and community support.

Refreshments in the morning and midday.
