About this Event

2026: Alloy Design Workshop – 10th Anniversary Edition
In the tenth anniversary of the Alloy Design Workshops, we bring together the members of the team that have organized it yearly for a decade to discuss key aspects of alloy design including thermodynamics, kinetics, microstructure physics, mechanics and beyond. This edition reflects on the evolution of the field and highlights emerging directions at the intersection of these disciplines by bringing together alumni who have since established independent research programs. The 2026 Alloy Design Workshop is structured around three central themes — Alloy Design, Microstructure Evolution, and Mechanics & Beyond — emphasizing the need for integrated approaches that bridge length and time scales. Particular focus is placed on alloy design for demanding applications, microstructural evolution under complex conditions, and the role of damage in overall mechanical performance. Through a combination of perspectives spanning fundamental theory, advanced experimentation, and data-driven approaches, the workshop aims to identify unifying principles and future opportunities for microstructure-informed alloy design.

VENUE & ACTIVITIES:

The Alloy Design Workshop 2026 will take place in the Chipman Room at MIT on Friday, December 4th, 2026. The event will also be broadcast live on zoom for attendees who are unable to join in person.

Complimentary lunch, coffee and refreshments will be provided during the workshop for all in-person attendees, together with a unique opportunity for networking with all invited speakers and participants!
