Award winning saxophonist & composer Josephine Davies brings her dynamic ensemble Satori to Derby to perform the music from ‘Weatherwards’, their fourth album on Whirlwind Recordings. The music is inspired by Josephine’s Nordic roots in the Shetland Islands, and beautifully weaves together the band’s contemporary jazz background with a hauntingly evocative folk influence. The intricate compositions, coupled with the thrilling interplay between these four musicians, evokes the interconnection of Shetland sea, land, sky, and ever-present wind.https://www.derbylive.co.uk/whats-on/buy-tickets?event=447425
As well as UK and European touring with Satori, Josephine runs her own jazz orchestra, The Ensō Ensemble, which released its debut album ‘The Celtic Wheel of the Year Suite’ on Ubuntu Records last year. She is also an integral member of the Harper Trio, who released their second, critically acclaimed album Dialogue of Thoughts in 2025. Recent performances include London Jazz Festival at Pizza Express and the Elgar Room at the Royal Albert Hall.
Pianist Alcyona Mick was recently nominated for the Parliamentary Award Jazz Musician of the year and has been performing internationally for many years with Arabic artist Natacha Atlas. A composer and bandleader in her own right, she writes for her band ‘Blink’ and her duo with saxophonist Tori Freestone, as well as the London Jazz Orchestra and various independent films.
