2025 US Shogi Tournament in San Francisco

Welcome to thel US Shogi Championship Tournament, this year held in San Francisco! Join us at the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California for a 2-day event filled with intense shogi matches and friendly competition.

This annual shogi tournament, with over 30 years of tradition, brings together players of all levels from across the United States for a weekend of competition, learning, and community. The event features a Swiss-style individual tournament, where players compete in preliminary rounds before being divided into A and B classes for the main competition. A round-robin team tournament is also held, with teams formed based on participants’ regions.

This year, we are honored to welcome three professional shogi players as special guests: Akio Ishikawa (Pro 7-Dan), Hirotaka Nozuki (Pro 8-Dan), and Mana Watanabe (Women’s Pro 3-Dan). They will be offering instructional matches, engaging with participants, and sharing their expertise throughout the event. In addition to the competition, participants can enjoy a pre-tournament event (Friday, April 25th, optional) and a welcome party on the night of Day 1, providing great opportunities to connect with fellow shogi enthusiasts.
