About this Event

UKHSA Annual Outdoor & Indoor Air Pollution Research Review Meeting - £40 per delegate

Welcome

The UK Health Security Agency's (UKHSA) Annual Outdoor and Indoor Air Pollution Research Review Meeting, held since the mid-1990s, has been the main national meeting of the UK’s experts in the field of air pollution and health research and policy makers. We are pleased to announce the launch of the 2025 UKHSA Annual Outdoor and Indoor Air Pollution Research Review Meeting, that will take place in Newcastle Upon Tyne on the 11th of November 2025.

The meeting is being organised by the Air Quality and Public Health team within the Environmental Hazards and Emergencies Department, UKHSA. The meeting will bring together academics, government scientists, policy makers, and others to present and discuss the latest research findings.

Following this event, UKHSA are holding a sister event ‘Air Quality and Public Health Stakeholder event’ on 12th November 2025. The stakeholder event offers researchers a valuable opportunity to network with national and local government and other stakeholders including health charities and industry partners. Please see further details on the Stakeholder event.

Who should attend:

The Research Review Meeting is aimed at academics and researchers at all levels, policy makers at both national and local level, directors of public health, and health charities.

• Evaluation of air quality strategies and policies e.g., clean air zones

• Adaption to a warming climate e.g., achieving net zero, decarbonization initiatives and associated co-benefits

• Emerging pollutants e.g., health effects of micro fibres/ plastics and nanomaterial

• Interaction between air pollution and other risk factors e.g., noise, smoking, diet, medicine, physical (in)activity

• Future of Artificial Intelligence (AI): Machine Learning for air pollution and health research e.g., its application in air quality monitoring and data analysis

• Rural air quality dynamics e.g., agricultural sources of air pollution, considerations in comparison to urban environments

• Horizon scanning of anticipated air quality challenges

• Interventional and behavioural studies to address the impact of air pollution

• Local initiatives in the Northeast Region including, effective communication to different audiences or economic evaluation.
