About this Event
Join us at Woodlawn & Frank Lloyd Wright’s Pope-Leighey House in Alexandria to celebrate the 2025 cohort of our Summer Residency program! See the space that inspired our residents and hear the stories they created from attending our summer residency program in collaboration with Woodlawn & Pope Leighey Houses and Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food and Agriculture.
Residents use their creative work to build community, to bring awareness to critical social and environmental issues, and to generate a creative force of empowerment. They spend a week on site with extended access to put those values to work. They are encouraged to explore themes related to the history of Woodlawn, including: documenting, humanizing, and presenting histories of enslaved and free Black people at the site; food cultivation and equitable distribution; indigenous histories; well-being and the natural environment; architecture and affordable housing; equality; anti-slavery activities; and Quaker communities.
This is a unique chance to see the space that inspired the work we invite you to come and hear the writers read aloud.
Our 2025 Residents: Matti Ben-Lev, Violeta Bermudez, Lani Furbank, Emily Haynes, and Shannon Jeffries
