About this Event
Please join the Milwaukee Lawyers Chapter of the Federalist Society for a ceremony honoring Attorney James T. Barry III with the Judge Rudolph T. Randa Award.
Each year, the Milwaukee Lawyers Chapter of the Federalist Society presents the Judge Rudolph T. Randa Award to an individual whose work on behalf of the rule of law and the legal principles our Society exists to uphold is as unquestioned as it is longstanding. Judge Randa, the Award’s namesake, served on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. He was a friend and patron of the Milwaukee Lawyers Chapter; but more importantly he lived the principles that most animate citizens in a free republic and, as a judge, scrupulously adhered to the law as written.
Past award winners include Michael W. Grebe, Richard M. Esenberg, Judge William Griesbach, Judge Diane Sykes, Justice Daniel Kelly, and Justice Rebeca Bradley. This year the recipient of the Award is Milwaukee lawyer James T. Barry III.
Mr. Barry is the President and CEO of the Barry Company a real estate investment, brokerage and consulting firm headquartered in Milwaukee. He has been recognized as one of Milwaukee’s 100 business leaders who get things done by the Business Journal of Milwaukee, and Milwaukee Magazine has named him one of Milwaukee’s most influential people. He is a co-founder of the Milwaukee Lawyers chapter of the Federalist Society and is very active in the Milwaukee community, currently serving as vice chairman of the Lynde & Harry Bradley Foundation, and having served on numerous corporate, civic and charitable boards, including serving as chairman of the Commercial Association of Realtors of Wisconsin, president of the Rotary Club of Milwaukee, chairman of the American Red Cross of Greater Milwaukee, chairman of the Wisconsin Policy Forum, co-chairman of the United Performing Arts Fund and Wisconsin Chairman of the American Association of the Order of Malta.
Mr. Barry graduated from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and then the University of Chicago Law School, where he served as editor-in-chief of the law review. After law school he clerked on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and practiced law with Foley & Lardner. He is a co-founder of the Milwaukee Lawyers Chapter of the Federalist Society and serves as a member of the Chapter’s Board of Advisors as well as a member of the national Federalist Society’s Board of Visitors.
Following the award Presentation, Rick Esenberg, President and General Counsel of the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty will deliver the Judge Randa Lecture.
Mr. Esenberg is a graduate of Harvard Law School, where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review, and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He has served on the faculty at the Marquette University Law School, and worked for years as a litigation partner at Foley & Lardner and General Counsel of an international manufacturing firm headquartered in Wisconsin before he founded the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty.
