About this Event
As usual, it will be held in Girard Park in Lafayette, LA with competition and the fun after-party held on Saturday, and leisure play after the tournament on Sunday for families, children, and adults..
(Please note that participation in our tournament does not provide for the accumulation of points towards Federation of Petanque USA rankings.)
- For insurance purposes It is necessary to belong to a petanque club to play in our tournament. If you are not yet in a club, you can join our club and register for the tournament at the same time, and benefit from a reduced fee.
- We always celebrate Saturday night at a private after-party with plenty of food and drink. If you wish to attend the after-party, please purchase The Add-On ticket that will cover the club expenses and help us plan for the number of people attending.
- Awards are given for the top 6 six teams. Awards are handmade on slabs of oak wood or plywood and laser burned and engraved. (The top 4 teams are determined by semi-finals and finals. There will be consolation rounds to determine the 5th and 6th place teams for trophies as well as to determine lower rankings.)
PRELIMINARY ROUNDS - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
- Preliminary rounds assign matches using the Swiss elimination method.
- Teams can be made up of any gender and players must be older than 7 years old.
- The three preliminary rounds are played "au sauvage" like those played traditionally in south of France in rural areas before about the 1950’s before the sport was professionalized. That is, we play anywhere in a park except on the formal courts. That is to say we play within tree roots, on the grass, cinder walking trails, other obstructions, and surfaces. There are no boundaries to the preliminary rounds so no disqualification if a cochonnet or boule bumps against an object.
- The preliminary rounds have a duration of 1 hour or 45 minutes depending on the number of entries.
- We then break for lunch (included with your registration) and camaraderie. It is typically jambalaya or gumbo. We cannot accomodate all special dietrary needs, but can recommend nearby places to eat if you are not able to eat what we are serving.
FINAL ROUNDS - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
- SCORING IS BASED ON THE SWISS SYSTEM. ONLY THE TEAMS WITH THE 4 HIGHEST SCORES WILL ADVANCE FOR FINAL PLAY ON THE COURTS. CONSOLATION ROUNDS WILL BE PLAYED TO DETERMINE THE 5TH AND 6TH RANKED TEAMS (as noted above for trophies as well as to determine lower rankings.)
- The semi-finals and final elimination rounds are played on formal courts in the afternoon with the formal rules used by Federation Petanque USA .
- It is a DOUBLES tournament - please make sure that both team members register for the event. If you do not have a partner, we will do our best to find an adult to partner with you, but cannot provide a guarantee.
- The club provides recommendations on lodging near the courts to for need a place to stay.
Regarding Minors:
Children between 7 and 15 years of age may play in the Tournament, and MUST BE accompanied by an adult the entire time - it is not a " drop-off event". La Boule Cadienne de Lafayette assumes no responsibility for the oversight of unaccompanied children.
Children younger than 15 are welcome for leisure play on Sunday provided that they are accompanied by an adult (parent or guardian)
