The annual OICA Child Advocacy Day Chili Cook-off is going to be on March 11 and will be held in the south parking lot of the Oklahoma State Capitol! For those of you who want to set up a table to promote your youth-serving program and use it to network by entering a pot of chili, go to the link below to register your entry. You can cook your entry in advance and bring it to us in a crockpot with a ladle. We prefer that you use your own propane-powered cookers as we have few plug-ins with our generator, but we can do our best to accommodate if that is what you need. This year, the theme will be highlighting the collaborative effort between OICA and the Indian Child Welfare Association members, the offices in the 38 sovereign nations headquartered here in Oklahoma, for the work we all do to support Oklahoma’s youth. The shirts will have all thirty-eight federally recognized tribal seals on the front, along with the Oklahoma state seal. We have invited each of the leaders of the sovereign nations to attend and be a part of this event.
For those of you who would like to sponsor and have your name appear on the sponsor shirt (and receive a shirt), you can also sign up at the below link. Sponsorships begin at $100, and your campaign funds are considered acceptable to use as we are a 501C3 nonprofit organization. If you choose not to sponsor, we will have the shirts for sale.
It is free to enter and also free to come sample chili, so feel free to share with youth-serving programs in your area.
Members of the various courts of Oklahoma and capitol press corps will serve as the chili judges, along with the lawmaker chili entries. Lawmakers will judge the best table theme for your entry, so get creative by promoting your organization and your work.
Again, we hope you will be able to join us for lunch in the south capitol parking lot that day, and best of luck to those of you who choose to enter your pot of chili!
