2025 MAAH Stone Book Awards

Join us on Thursday, October 9 at the Museum of African American History in Boston for the 2025 MAAH Stone Book Awards. This highly anticipated annual social and scholarly event honors 3 winning authors whose new books have made significant contributions to documenting African American history and the African American experience. Enjoy a FREE wine and hors d’oeuvres reception before gathering in the historic African Meeting House to celebrate this year’s outstanding winner Michelle Adams and finalists Ana Lucia Araujo and Benjamin Barson.

The first 100 people to arrive will receive a free signed copy of one of the winning books!

WHEN: Thursday, October 9, 2025. Reception at 5:30pm/Award presentations at 6:30pm.

WHERE: Museum of African American History, Boston Campus ,46 Joy St, Boston, MA 02114

The reception takes place at the museum in the Susan Paul Room. At 6:30pm (ET) we will move up to the historic African Meeting House (this portion of the evening will be livestreamed).

Our jury will present the $50,000 prize to Michelle Adams for The Containment: Detroit, the Supreme Court, and the Battle for Racial Justice in the North.

The two $10,000 finalist prizes will be presented to Ana Lucia Araujo for Humans in Shackles: An Atlantic History of Slavery and Benjamin Barson for Brassroots Democracy: Maroon Ecologies and the Jazz Commons.

Enjoy a lively discussion between the winning authors and GBH host Callie Crossley, followed by a short Q&A with the audience.

End the evening by receiving a free signed copy of one of the winning books (if you are one of the lucky first100 people to arrive)!
