The 2025 Listervelt Middleton Lecture Series

The Kemetic Institute for Health and Human Development in partnership with the Catalyst Mbongi and Benedict College presents the 29th Anniversary of the Listervelt Middleton Lecture Series honoring the work and legacy of the late author, poet, TV personality and scholar Listervelt Middleton.

The Listervelt Middleton Lecture Series, a free event, will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Benedict College, 7:00 p.m. in the Fine Arts Humanities Center-Little Theater. The speaker for the Lecture will be Dr. Riba C. Kelsey, is a family physician and medical educator who serves as the Family Medicine Residency Program Director and Associate Dean of Graduate Medical Education at Morehouse School of Medicine.

Bio: Dr. Riba C. Kelsey, is a family physician and medical educator who serves as the Family Medicine Residency Program Director and Associate Dean of Graduate Medical Education at Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM). She is celebrated locally and nationally for her commitment to resident education, advancing clinical research, and providing exceptional patient care.

Recognized for her exemplary leadership and dedication to medical education, Dr. Kelsey was honored as the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians’ 2022 Educator of the Year and has earned numerous other accolades, including the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award and twice, the MSM Graduate Medical Education Faculty Member of the Year. Renowned for her approachability and steadfast pursuit of excellence, she is a trusted mentor and clinician, inspiring the next generation of family physicians.

Known for her expertise in residency accreditation, her guidance on new program development and improving the quality of existing medical residency and fellowship programs is sought nationally. Given her particular interest in improving health in the Black community, she regularly provides health education in the lay community.

Respected among her peers for her work across each of these domains, Dr. Kelsey serves as Chair of the National Medical Association’s Family Medicine Section. Given her passion for studying and sharing African history and culture and applying African principles to daily life, she is a member of the Association for the Study of Classical African Civilizations and serves as its Southern Regional President.
