About this Event
This three day Gathering will provide participants the opportunity to engage with like-minded people to explore and share not only experiences, but discuss and generate actionable steps to move Indigenous Education forward in their districts.
New this year, will be a one day session on the land where we will take part in multiple opportunities to be hosted by the land and engaging in workshops and teachings with Knowledge Keepers.
When I set out and began organizing it, I was determined that it was not going to be another Indigenous Education conference. Those have a place but I wanted to have people GATHER and have conversations about Indigenous Education.
A Gathering from my perspective is relationship centered. The primary focus is to come together and build relationships that lead to partnerships and collaboration. It is holistic and as such it is inclusive and supportive of one another. Yes I always start with an outline of objectives, however, I have learned that the journey and the process of coming together carry a higher value. I allow for flexibility in the agenda so we can be responsive to the needs of the participants. What I appreciate most is that decisions or insights often emerge organically through shared discussions and informal conversations. This to me is an Indigenous way of being and doing. - Organizer Troy Maracle
