The Funeral Consumers Alliance of Maine Shines a Light on Funeral Alternatives with Three Special Events: The FCA Annual Meeting, A Guided Cemetery Tour, and a Death CaféWhy is the topic of death and dying so regarded as taboo? How can funeral arrangements become more affordable? Are green burials gaining popularity? These are some of the issues on the minds of the Funeral Consumers Alliance board members as they gather in Bangor, ME, for their annual meeting. In addition to the meeting, the FCA board invites the public to two special events: a Death Café and a Guided Tour of Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Death Café (Friday, Nov. 7)
On Friday, Nov. 7, the FCA will kick off the weekend with a Death Café at Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. Facilitated by Leona Oceania, owner of Die Well Death Education and FCA board member, the Death Café has no specific agenda, objective, or theme. It’s simply an open forum directed by the group, meant to raise awareness about the topic of death and help normalize discussions about the end of life.
FCA Annual Meeting (Saturday, Nov. 8)
On Saturday, Nov. 8, the FCA Annual Meeting will be held at the Bangor Public Library in the Minsky Lecture Hall from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. During the meeting, you’ll meet the board members, learn more about the organization, and have time to ask questions.
Guided Tour at Mt. Hope Cemetery (Saturday, Nov. 8)
After the annual meeting, we will gather at Mt. Hope Cemetery for a guided tour from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. Located at the top of Cemetery Hill in Bangor, Mt. Hope is one of the oldest garden cemeteries in the country. Its historic grounds are well-preserved, peaceful, and a must-see for any Stephen King fan.
These events, organized by the Funeral Consumers Alliance of Maine, are free and open to the public. Join us for one, two, or all three sessions and bring a mortality-minded friend!
