The Funeral Consumers Alliance of Maine is shining a light on funeral alternatives with three special events: The FCA Maine annual meeting, a guided cemetery tour, and a Death CaféWhy is the topic of death and dying so regarded as taboo? How can funeral arrangements become more affordable? Are green burials gaining popularity? These are some of the issues on the minds of the Funeral Consumers Alliance of Maine board members as they gather in Bangor, ME, for their annual meeting. In addition to the meeting, the FCA Maine board invites the public to two special events: a Death Café and a guided tour of Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Death Café (Friday, Nov. 7)
On Friday, Nov. 7, the FCA Maine will kick off the weekend with a Death Café at Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. Facilitated by an FCA Maine board member, the Death Café has no specific agenda, objective, or theme. It’s simply an open forum for discussion, meant to raise awareness about the topic of death and help normalize conversations about the end of life.
FCA Maine Annual Meeting (Saturday, Nov. 8)
On Saturday, Nov. 8, the FCA Maine Annual Meeting will be held at the Bangor Public Library in the Minsky Lecture Hall from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. A Zoom option is available, too. During the meeting, you’ll meet the board members, learn more about the organization, and have time to answer questions.

Guided Tour at Mt. Hope Cemetery (Saturday, Nov. 8)
After the annual meeting, board members will gather at Mt. Hope Cemetery for a guided tour from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. Located at the top of Cemetery Hill in Bangor, Mt. Hope is one of the oldest garden cemeteries in the country. Its historic grounds are well-preserved, peaceful, and a must-see for any Stephen King fan.
These events, organized by the Funeral Consumers Alliance of Maine, are free and open to the public. Join us for one, two, or all three sessions and bring a mortality-minded friend!
