This year we will run the Northbound route from Rainbow to Potter. We alternate the course every year between the Northern and the Southern route. his year we will run the Northbound route from Rainbow to Potter. We alternate the course every year between the Northern and the Southern route. The Northern route: The 8 mile course starts at the Rainbow Trail Head and ends at the Potter Trail Head. We will run through the parking lot at McHugh to get intermediate times. The 4 mile course is the same as the last 4 miles of the 8 mile course (starting at McHugh at the end of the upper parking lot), also ending at the Potter Trail Head.
The entire length of the trail is comprised of single-track and double-wide soft surface trail. Most of the trail is moderately rocky and rooty, and the entire trail traverses moderately hilly terrain, including some longer and steeper hills. The south-facing topography of the trail means that it is usually remarkably dry if the weather’s been nice, even in the springtime, and the views of Turnagain Arm are especially good before the trees leaf out for the summer.
