The Third Annual Marty Van De Car Chef's Challenge will happen again the first Monday in December, 12/2/24, at Sage Restaurant in the Odawa Casino.$10,000 of our proceeds this year go to the New Women's Resource Centers new building and the balance will go to the Marty Van De Car Scholarship Fund at the Petoskey/Harbor Springs Community Foundation.
We have two Chefs are returning to defend their previous titles as winners for the 1st and 2nd year's competition respectively, Chef Rob Sargent of Sage Restaurant and Chef Lauretta Reiss of Small Batch at the Cupola! Taking them on will be Chef John Norman and Chef Erin Conger of City Park Grill.
They will compete in 3 categories - Amuse, Appetizer and Entree and will be judged by 150 diners. Included in the meal will be Crooked Tree Breadworks Epi Bread accompanied by Fustini's special oil and balsamic vinegar. Dessert this year will feature Jo Jo's Cookie Company's Famous Sugar Cookie and Chocolate Chip Cookie. Wines featured this year will be through Great Lakes Wine & Spirits and will include Faire La Fete Brut NV, LaFouret Bourgogne Chardonney and Harvey & Harriet Red Blend.
In addition to the dinner, the night will finish with the signature Black Jack Tournament (this year set up inside at the Sage Bar lounge) and 25 lucky winners with the top scores will win prizes with the first place getting a $100 gift card to Sage!
Other door prizes will be awarded for bottles of the featured wine, 50 winners will receive pairs of 2025 Bigger Better Best Burger Cards (value $80) and the top prize of the night will be one lucky diner winning a dinner for 8 prepared in their home by the winning chef!
Costs include: tickets are $150, 6 ounce wine pours are $12 (and the bar at Sage will also be available), and for the door prizes - cards are $100.
Contact Jenny Brower for ticket availability starting Monday, November11th at (231) 838-4822 - At this time we expect to have two and four top tables available but believe the 6, 8 and 10 top tables will be already reserved by those who attended the first two years and got first dibs on returning.
