The festival re-defines Chinese music with ground-breaking cross-cultural collaboration through three concerts and free community events. Bring any musical instrument and join us at this hands-on “freestyle” music jam party. Musicians of all levels and genres are welcome.

Chinese Percussion Workshop
Huang leads a hands-on workshop on traditional Chinese percussion music. Learn the techniques and languages of various Chinese percussion instruments, such as Chinese opera cymbals, and Chinese opera gongs.

Yang Xue’s Erhu music
Yang Xue, faculty of Central Conservatory of Music (Beijing), has performed internationally as a soloist on the Chinese violin.
The Sound of Dragon Society preserves ancient traditions of Chinese music and celebrates diversity and creativity in the contemporary applications of this music, resulting from the interaction between musicians of various ethnic and musical backgrounds. By presenting musicians and ensembles from different ethnicities, nationalities, and musical trainings/genres, Sound of Dragon Society re-defines Chinese music and reflects Vancouver’s multicultural environment and a highly creative music scene.
The Sound of Dragon Society operates and presents musical events on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of the Coast Salish peoples: Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations.
