A raucous, fun-loving, and wild ride through the stages and back streets of the Bay Area, this film tracks one woman’s journey to find out what sparks life in communities and how music is a powerful entity in days of division and has power in its ability to bring people together.

Balkancisco focuses on the idea that there are certain cultural expressions that are so innate to our shared humanity that they cannot be taken away by politics. When a young Turkish immigrant arrives in San Francisco, she finds herself inside an ever-growing Balkan music scene and sets off on a quest to explore how Bay Area has become such a hotbed for Balkan music, how it influenced the local music scene, and how music travels & transcends boundaries and borders. It's important to recognize the ways in which politics can divide us, but also to understand the enduring power of cultural expression and its ability to bring us together.
