Join the San Diego Poetry Annual (SDPA) at Verbatim Books, on Saturday, Sept 21 at 7:30 pm. We will be celebrating four fantastic new books published in 2024 by local powerhouse poets. The evening will include readings by Gill Sotu (2x Grand Slam Poetry Champion, Navy veteran, poet, playwright), Michael Klam (poet, SDPA Executive Director), Jane Muschenetz (poet, SDPA Director of Partnerships), and Amelia Rodriguez (poet and Associate Editor at San Diego Magazine).
Following the reading, we’ll have a Q&A with the writers, who are at various stages of their poetic careers. Fall in love with poetry again at Poetry Harvest, hosted by Verbatim Books.
Daniela Paraguya Sow was born in New York City, New York, and she was raised in Angeles City, Philippines, and in parts of Southern California. She and her family currently live in San Diego, where she serves as faculty in the English Department at Grossmont College. Her writing has appeared in Mixed Asian Media, The Plentitudes Journal, The Hyacinth Review, West Trestle Review, and elsewhere. Michael Klam is the executive editor of the San Diego Poetry Annual and also serves as associate publisher of the SDPA. He is the editor-in-chief of Elixir, the bilingual edition of SDPA. Klam organizes and hosts San Diego Central Library’s Conversations with Poets. His books include Anything for a Dull Moment (Garden Oak Press: 2020), The Cheapest Flight to Paradise (Puna Press: 2017) and San Diego Book Award finalist, Emma and the Buddha Frog (Puna Press: 2007).
Jane Yevgenia Muschenetz is a Ukrainian-born, Jewish author and artist who fled the Soviet regime as a child. She has appeared in Spoken Word Paris, KPBS Midday Edition, and various publications. Recognized in 2023 for excellence in poetry performance by San Diego County, Jane’s additional honors include the 2024 California Press Women Communications Prize and SDWF 2024 Poetry Collection of the Year Award. Born in California’s Coachella Valley, Amelia Rodriguez is an award-winning journalist and the author of the poetry chapbook The First Amelia (2024, Gunpowder Press). She is the associate editor at San Diego Magazine, where she covers art, culture, and obscure women’s sports. Her articles have appeared in Rolling Stone, Spectrum Literary Journal, and other publications.
