About this Event

(French to follow)

Join the Museum of Vancouver’s Education Team for a dynamic day of hands-on weaving, experiential learning, and to connect with other K-12 teachers!

The morning starts with a traditional cedar bracelet weaving workshop, led by skilled Musqueam weaver, Rita Kompst. Rita will guide educators through the intricate process of crafting a beautiful bracelet out of locally harvested cedar. What makes this workshop truly special is the commitment to sustainability and tradition—the cedar used in the workshop is sourced by Rita and her family, right here in our community. Harvested with care and processed by hand, this cedar ensures a connection to sustainable harvesting and a meaningful crafting experience rooted in rich cultural tradition.

Following a catered lunch, there’ll be an afternoon session to learn more about the MOV’s French and English educational offerings. Preview all the program materials and interactive activities, while making connections to your next lesson plan. For French Immersion and Francophone teachers, a special highlight of our latest joint virtual school program, , done in collaboration with Château d’If in Marseille, France, will also be presented. A new Squamish story, Skwachàys: The Great Seal Hunt, that is now part of our Animating History Program, will be highlighted as well.

Finally, wrap up the day with guided tours of the and , two exhibitions that explore the intersections of culture, climate, environment and sustainability.
