Last year, we hosted the inaugural Poetry Palooza! in Des Moines with great success and excitement. This event was a reimagining of the former Des Moines National Poetry Festival. Poetry Palooza! brought renowned poets from across the region together for a weekend of poetry with over a thousand people in attendance! The community was so energized from the weekend that we are thrilled to bring it back for 2024.
The 2024 Poetry Palooza! will take place on April 19-20, 2024, in Des Moines, Iowa, at Grandview University.
We are honored to announce that our Featured Poets for the weekend include Camille Dungy, Traci Brimhall, Jennifer L. Knox, Paul Brooke, Debra Marquart, and Caleb "The Negro Artist" Rainey!
All events are free and open to the public!
Friday, April 19:
7:30 p.m. - Iowa Poetry Association's Poetry Slam Finals
Saturday, April 20:
10:00 a.m. - Writing Workshops
12:00 p.m. - Panel Luncheon
1:15 p.m. - Writing Workshops
3:00 p.m. - "The Cities of the Plains" Book Launch & Reading
3:00 p.m. - Open Mic
6:30 p.m. - Doors open for Feature Poet Performance
7:00 p.m. - Feature Poet Performance
