INVITATION TO ATTEND
We are thrilled to announce the eighth annual Oklahoma Women in Aviation & Aerospace Day and welcome you to join us in celebrating this empowering event. This year, in collaboration with the 138th Fighter Wing Air National Guard Wing (ANGW), Tulsa International Airport, the Oklahoma Air and Space Forces Association, and the Oklahoma Defense Industry Association, we will gather on Friday, December 6, 2024, at the base for a day of inspiration and recognition.
Oklahoma’s aerospace and aviation industry is not only the second-largest and fastest-growing in the state, but it’s also a key driver of innovation and economic impact, contributing $44 billion annually. The demand for a skilled and diverse workforce has never been greater. Reflecting this, our theme for the year pays tribute to the unsung heroes of our industry—the aircraft mechanics and technicians who keep America flying—and to the iconic Rosie the Riveter, whose rallying cry of "We Can Do It!" has inspired generations. Today, we’re expanding that message to "Everyone Can Do It!"—because in the modern aviation industry, there is a place for each and every one.
Just as Rosie symbolized strength, determination, and the vital role women played in building the nation, we aim to shine a light on the critical workforce needs in aviation. This year’s event will feature a luncheon, a keynote address, and a panel discussion that not only honors the women who have shaped aerospace but also inspires the next generation to seize the vast opportunities in this dynamic field. Women are leading the charge in this exciting transformation—turning wrenches, engineering avionics, piloting rockets, and charting the course for commercial space flight.
Join us as we salute the incredible contributions women have made to aviation in Oklahoma and beyond, as we continue to propel our industry into the future—because when it comes to shaping the skies, Everyone Can Do It!
H ISTORY OF THE EVENT
The history of Oklahoma Women in Aviation and Aerospace Day began with an effort by the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics in 2017 when the former Aeronautics Commission presented a bill to the Oklahoma legislature (SB 230), and it was enacted into law, to officially recognize the contribution of Oklahoma women in the State’s aviation and aerospace industry, on December 9th, annually.
The date marks the birth of the famous Chickasaw aviator, Pearl Carter Scott, of Marlow, Oklahoma. Scott learned to fly at the age of 13 under legendary aviator Wiley Post. She became the youngest pilot in the United States with her first solo flight on September 12, 1929, the same year that Amelia Earhart established the female pilot group, the Ninety-Nines.
