Please make your reservations now for the Ohio SPJ event of the year – the Ohio SPJ Contest Awards Celebration – being held this year at the Hofbräuhaus Cleveland, Fest Hall, located near Playhouse Square.

The Cleveland Pro Chapter is hosting the annual event, in association with pro chapters in Cincinnati and Cleveland, to honor the Buckeye State’s best journalism in 2024.

Doors open at 11 a.m. Your admission includes a pretzel with bier cheese starter, choice of four different entrees and an apple strudel dessert (make entrée selection when registering; see list below). There will be a cash bar for German bier and other beverages. After lunch, we will present this year’s awards.

Come and celebrate with your fellow journalists from the Buckeye State! If you want to extend your stay after the celebration, the Cleveland Guardians are playing at home that evening. Ideastream’s offices and studios are next door. If enough people are interested, the Cleveland chapter, our host for the day, has offered to set up a post-celebration tour. And the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is open Sunday.

ENTREES FROM WHICH TO CHOOSE:

PIEROGIES: Sauteed cheddar and potato pierogis served with caramalized onions, topped with sour cream and scallions.

GEGRILLTE HAEHNCHENBRUST (GRILLED CHICKEN BREAST): Grilled chicken breast, creamy mushroom gravy, served with spatzle.

HB HOUSE SALAD WITH GRILLED CHICKEN: Fresh spring mix lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, and red peppers. Served with balsamic dressing on the side.

SAUSAGE PLATE: One frankfurter and one chicken sausage, served over mashed potatoes and sauerkraut, with a side of German mustard.

Recommended parking locations are the Playhouse Square garage off Chester Avenue, and the Cleveland State University garage off East 17th between Chester and Euclid.
