Please join us in-person for this year's Post-Secondary Leader's Summit, focusing on the exploration of Challenges and Supports Accessing Mental Health Services for Indigenous Post-Secondary Students.
The event will address critical issues related to Indigenous education and post-secondary supports in Canada.
Focus: Understanding the students’ needs for wellness and mental health supports, the necessity of these supports and hear about best practices from colleges and universities and how to address gaps. We will continue the dialogue with post-secondary leaders and review the progress in implementing TRC (Truth and Reconciliation Commission) recommendations, Indigenization, and Indigenous Achievement Plans.
Topics to be Discussed:
1. Mental Health Supports for Post-Secondary Indigenous Students: The summit will delve into the mental health needs of students, the challenges they face, and the challenges the institutes have when trying to deliver support.
2. Best Practices Discussion: Post-secondary education leaders from both College and University come together to discuss best practices in Indigenous education, sharing successful strategies for improving Indigenous students' access, retention, and success rates through access to mental health supports.
3. Reviewing Summit Outcomes: The previous year's summit outcomes will be reviewed. Discuss the progress in implementing recommendations or action plans related to Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) initiatives, indigenization of curricula, and Indigenous achievement plans.
4. Keynote Speakers: The summit will feature keynote speakers who will provide valuable insights and set the tone for the event.
5. Panelists: The event will have panel discussions with representatives from across Canada's education landscape. These panelists will contribute to a dialogue to share information, discuss challenges, and explore solutions.
The Summit is a valuable opportunity for stakeholders in Indigenous education to come together, share knowledge, and work towards improving Indigenous students' access-to and success-in post-secondary education. It also highlights the ongoing commitment to advancing the goals of Truth and Reconciliation and Indigenous education in Canada.
