August 27 – Bobby Plough Y Dos Gringos. Bobby Plough is a naturally talented singer, songwriter and musician living in eastern North Carolina, whose experiences from around the world and from his own backyard provide the material for his music. His goal is to share his heritage and his life through his songs and performances, and he does just that. At first glimpse, he is a simple man. But his songs prove otherwise.
Raised in Corpus Christi, Texas, his early influences included masters of Texas country sound Willie Nelson, Guy Clark, Shake Russell, Townes Van Zandt and Steve Earle. North Carolina legends Doc Watson, Earl Scruggs, and James Taylor also had a major impact on his writing and performance style.
He writes and performs more and more originals these days. Even when he does play a cover or two, he puts his own style to it, so it often takes a minute for folks to recognize that he’s performing a cover. His songs are shaped by faith, family, the outdoors, surfing, the ocean, horses, country living, and, of course, the people he meets. Even with all that, his style has a consistency. The people who love his music are the ones who like to hear a story in a song.
If you ask what genre of music Bobby Plough plays, don’t expect a simple answer from this simple man. It’s best described as: Acoustic story-telling music; a little country, but then again not; with a dash of both Latin America and Americana, all wrapped up with an original Bobby Plough twist.
