About this Event

The Josiah Bartlett Center for Public Policy, New Hampshire's free-market think tank, develops and advances policies that promote opportunity and prosperity for all Granite Staters. Each year, we recognize one Granite Stater for significant contributions to the state, with an emphasis on economic opportunity and economic growth. This year's Libertas Award honoree is Peter T. Paul, one of the most successful entrepreneurs and generous philanthropists in state history.

Enjoy a reception featuring fine hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar with many of New Hampshire's top business and political leaders from 6-7, followed by a filet mignon dinner as we gather in Concord to toast the New Hampshire Advantage and one of its foremost business leaders. About Peter T. Paul:

Born and raised in Troy, N.H., Peter T. Paul is President of Headlands Asset Management LLC, a management company he founded in 2008. He also is the owner and chairman of Peter Paul Wines based in San Rafael, Calif., and is President of West Biofuels, a research development venture working on thermo chemical conversion of agricultural and urban residue (biomass) to biofuel and biopower. He is also Chairman of the Board of The Headlands Foundation, a non-profit organization he founded in 1995 that focuses on supporting local organizations and worthwhile causes that make life better for children and their families.

Prior to the formation of Headlands Asset Management, Mr. Paul was President of Headlands Mortgage Company. Headlands Mortgage Company was based in Larkspur, CA and founded by Mr. Paul in 1986. It became one of the premier wholesale lending institutions in the country, specializing in originating, selling, securitizing and servicing residential mortgage loan products. After leading Headlands through a successful IPO (NASD ~ HDLD) in February of 1998, Mr. Paul subsequently negotiated the merger with GreenPoint Financial the following year.

Mr. Paul became Vice Chairman of GreenPoint Financial (NYSE ~ GPT) and President and CEO of GreenPoint Mortgage after the merger was completed in March 1999. In January 2000, Mr. Paul became the President and CEO of GreenPoint Credit, a leading mortgage lender in the manufactured housing industry, where he helped to restructure the company. Ultimately, he resigned from the Board of Directors at GreenPoint in order to open Paul Financial LLC in July 2003. Paul Financial, LLC was a mortgage loan banking company from 2003 until 2007.

With more than 35 years of experience in mortgage banking and financial services, Paul served from 1998 to 2004 on the Board of Directors of Federal Agricultural Mortgage Corp. (NYSE ~ AGM) and Sequoia National Bank from 2001 to 2005 (SQNB.OB). He currently serves on the Board of Directors of JMP Securities (NYSE ~ JMP).

In 1967, he earned a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of New Hampshire. In 1971, he earned an M.B.A. from Boston University, where he served as a Trustee from 2005 to 2019.

Mr. Paul is a recipient of the Ernst and Young 1999 Financial Services Entrepreneur of the Year award. He received an alumni award for distinguished service from The Graduate School of Management at Boston University in May 2003 and the first annual Achievement in Business Award from the Whittemore School of Business and Economics at University of New Hampshire, in April of 2008.
