Join us for the 2024 Friends and Lovers Balloon Rally hosted by the Albuquerque Aerostat Ascension Association (Quad A) on February 10-11, 2024!We are thrilled to announce that this year's rally will be held in Rio Rancho, as a proactive response to align with FAA guidelines and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.
The Friends and Lovers Balloon Rally has been a beloved event in Albuquerque for years. Originally known as the Albuquerque Cloudbouncer Balloon Rally, it was created to generate excitement for the 1975 World Hot Air Balloon Championships and the 4th Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.
At our rally, we celebrate the beauty of hot-air balloons and honor the hardworking crews who play an essential role in ensuring successful flights for both hot-air and RC balloon pilots. We proudly announce Debi Ostgulen as our balloonmeistern, bringing her expertise and passion as a commercial hot air balloon pilot to make this rally one to remember.
For those unfamiliar with the term, a balloonmeistern is responsible for coordinating and overseeing all ballooning activities during an event. It is a prestigious position within the hot-air ballooning community, traditionally filled by a woman at our rally. This showcases our commitment to promoting female leadership and inclusion in aviation.
This year's event promises an unforgettable experience for local balloon enthusiasts and families alike. We have curated various activities such as RC & hot-air balloon flying events, crew contests, and food trucks at the Rio Rancho amphitheater on Saturday and Sunday.
