The cost will be around $600-$900 per family, depending on the size of family (cost is per person) and the length of stay. Scholarships will be available for families in financial need. The official programming will be from July 5th through the 7th, with an optional extended day with extra content on the 8th. This will allow families to shorten and cheapen the trip, as fits their needs. We've reserved 27 individual rooms at the Reynolds Motel on the Epworth campus. These will be used by couples and their 12-and-under children. We've also reserved two large bunk cabins (Aldersgate) for the young adult boys and girls (ages 13-18). There will be a chaperone or two in each cabin. We've reserved the Lovely Lane Chapel each day for Matins and Evensong (and Eucharist on Sunday). For the sessions, we've reserved the Culbreth Christian Education Center Classrooms, which has a nice central area and six different rooms for breakouts. You can learn more about Epworth by the Sea at https://www.epworthbythesea.org.
The camp will consist of four plenaries with breakout discussions following. There will be lots of free time to enjoy the beautiful seaside campus with its many family amenities. There will also be planned group events each day, with additional activities for the young adults and children. While the adults are in the plenaries and breakouts, there will also be a kids' track to the camp that will address similar topics, but directed at their level.
Here is a synopsis of the camp theme: The Story of a Home"
"The way we live tells a certain story. Countries have implicit stories. So do families and homes. We play our parts like actors, but often we don’t even know what play we are in. What story is being told by your home? How would your children answer that question? Many families feel trapped within the story of their home, like being stuck in a nightmare. They can sense that they are acting out the wrong story. At the center of these twisted tales are unsaid lies: “I must be enough.” “I am not enough.” “God is not enough.” “You are not enough.” To name a few... In this mire of lies, a multitude of theological and cultural diseases flourish. They injure families, especially children. But thriving homes are built upon God’s story, and it has the power to reshape every community where it is told and received.
At the 2024 CTK Family Camp, we will pay particular attention to story that God is telling and its implications for family life. We will explore the false narratives behind the epidemics of Anxiety, Shame, and Bitterness. Through discussion, prayer, and practice, we will tease out key truths that answer the lies embedded in our family cultures. Our hope is that the homes of our families will be freed to live peaceful, honest, missional, joyful lives in the Kingdom of God. At the 2024 CTK Family Camp, we hope to rebuild our homes on the story of the Love of God."
