Monday & Tuesday: 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Wednesday at 9 a.m. until Thursday at 2 p.m. (overnight camping)

General Information:
The CAOS Climbing Camp for 11-13 year old campers is designed to introduce and reinforce the basic skills related to rock climbing and rappelling as well as provide an introduction to camping with a focus on personal responsibility. The camp is facilitated by faculty and/or staff of the Garrett College Center for Adventures and Outdoor Studies. Participants will learn about equipment, knots, movement skills, climbing systems and campcraft skills. Campers will be actively involved in camp setup, cooking and meal cleanup. No experience is necessary to participate.
Campers will travel in Garrett College vehicles from the Garrett College Community Aquatics & Recreation Complex (CARC) to a climbing site that is appropriate to the climbers’ ability levels and to the current weather conditions. Sites may include the Fork Run Recreation Area, Coopers Rock State Forest and regional climbing gyms. Games, initiatives and day hikes may also be included. Wednesday evening will be an overnight camping experience at a commercial campground at Coopers Rock.
Monday and Tuesday participants will meet with the camp instructors at the CARC at 9 a.m. Participants and instructors will return on those days to the CARC at 2 p.m.
Wednesday and Thursday involve an overnight camping trip to Coopers Rock State Forest. Campers and instructors will meet at the CARC at 9 a.m. on Wednesday and return at 2 p.m. on Thursday.

Equipment List:
Every day:
• 2 Water bottles
• Comfortable, weather appropriate clothing
• Closed-toed shoes (sneakers or light hiking boots)
Wednesday & Thursday:
• Change of clothes & PJ’s
• Pillow
• Toiletries
• Towel
Provided:
• Snacks & Lunch on Monday and Tuesday
• All food on Wednesday and Thursday
• Climbing harness, helmet & shoes
• All technical climbing equipment (ropes, carabiners, etc.)
• All camping equipment (sleeping bags, sleeping pads, tents,
cooking equipment, etc.)

Tentative Itinerary:
Monday
• Introductions and games/initiatives
• Introduction to rock climbing and rappelling at Coopers Rock
State Forest (Roadside Rocks)
• Daily focus: Climbing equipment, movement skills, rappelling
Tuesday
• Indoor climbing at Frostburg State University or Gritstone
Climbing & Fitness
• Camping preparation and equipment issue
• Daily focus: Movement skills, bouldering, belay techniques
Wednesday
• Rock climbing and rappelling at Coopers Rock (Sunset Wall
and/or Upper Rock City)
• Day hike
• Campcraft skills (cooking, cleanup, tent setup)
• Daily focus: Movement skills, knots and campcraft
Thursday
• Rock climbing and rappelling at Coopers Rock State Forest
(Roof Rocks Area)
• Daily focus: Belay techniques and movement skills
